Character building is a lifelong learning

Learning and building character are two sides of a coin. It is important to focus on both, all through our lives. Building character is lifelong learning and both go hand in hand. While the race is on for scoring higher marks, one cannot overlook the importance of shaping character in children. Ms. Chitra Iyer – Principal – Sri Ma Vidyalaya, Thane, strongly believes that through our evaluation system focusses on marks, character building is scored all through one’s lifetime. As educators, we have to understand that children have a very important role to play in shaping their characters, and we have to be the best medium to allow this to happen effortlessly. Peers and educators also have a key role to play in this. It has rightly been quoted that “If wealth is lost, nothing is lost. If health is lost, something is lost. But if the character is lost, everything is lost.” One needs to, therefore, focus on character building and shaping, which is what schools have to realign its thought process too. That would be the right way of leading lives.
